Representatives of Youth Networks affiliated to Amnesty International Nepal empowered with the campaigning techniques. Through a series of workshops held in regional level, AI Nepal provided that opportunity to the young activists affiliated to AI Nepal.
The workshops organized in regional level were held in Kakarvitta, Hetauda, Butwal and Kathmandu in between 30 July to 12 August 2010.
In the workshops, theoretical as well as practical sessions on campaigning techniques were held. The workshops basically focused on AI Nepal’s priority campaigns related to the rights of migrant workers and campaign on justice. Under the campaigning techniques, the participants were also empowered on how to participate in e-activism. Similarly, following theoretical presentations on strategic campaign planning, participants came up with their campaign plan to take back to their respective Youth Networks for implementation in the near future.
Kakarvitta
The first workshop was organized in Kakarvitta on 30 July 2010. A two member team of facilitators led by Chairperson Hem Kumar Khadka and Director Rameshwar Nepal conducted the session. Altogether 28 participants (19 men and 9 women) from 10 Youth Networks from Panchthar, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts took part in the programme.
Earlier, an inaugural ceremony of the regional workshop was held on 29 July. The guest speaker of the inaugural session expressed their views on a title “Rights of Migrant Workers”. Inaugural ceremony was hosted by Mechi Youth Network, Jhapa and presided over by Sunita KC of the Network.
Hetauda
The second workshop held in Hetauda 3-4 August, 2010. A two member team comprises of Director Rameshwar Nepal and Youth Network National Working Group (YNNWG) member Rama Paudel facilitated the sessions. Altogether 21 representatives (11 men and 10 women) from 6 Youth Network affiliated to AI Nepal and working in Dhanusha, Sarlahi and Chitwan districts took part in the programme.
Earlier, an inaugural ceremony of the workshop was held on 2 August. On the occasion, speakers including the chief-guest and the judge of Appellate Court Hetauda Ek Raj Acharya, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Makawanpur Dinesh Bhattarai, Central Committee Member of Federation of Nepalese Journalist Pratap Bista, Director of AI Nepal Rameshwar Nepal, Acting head of Hetauda Municipality Shankar Prasad Upadhyaya, member of host (AI Nepal Group-67) Lalita Shrestha and Jeevan Kaji Makaju shed lights in the different aspect of human rights and particularly on increasing trend of impunity in Nepal. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Arjun Pokharel, the vice-convenor of Group-67.
Butwal
The third workshop held on August 6-7 in Butwal. A two member team comprises of Director Rameshwar Nepal and convener of Group -12, Butwal Karun Khanal facilitated the sessions. Altogether 27 representatives (13 men and 14 women) from 10 Youth Networks affiliated to AI Nepal and working in Surkhet, Banke, Pyuthan, Baglung, Kaski, Kapilbastu and Rupandehi districts participated in the programmme.
Earlier, an inaugural ceremony of the workshop was held on 5 August. A title on “Where They Are?” (in the context of disappearance in Nepal) was given to the guest speakers who came to speak in the inaugural ceremony. The chief guest of the programmme was a mother Tulasa Devi Pandey who has loosed her two sons during the conflict in Nepal. The inaugural session was presided by Karun Khanal, the convener of host Group of the programme.
Kathmandu
The fourth workshop held on August 11-12 in Kathmandu. A three member team comprises of Director Rameshwar Nepal, Program Officer Bhola Bhattarai and Coordinator of Youth Network National Working Group Suman Dhun Shrestha facilitated the sessions. At the beginning of the workshop, National Executive Committee Member Rajan Kuikel by highlighting role of youth in AI, encouraged youth to come up with an effective plan of action for their respective Youth Network.
Altogether 12 representatives (5 men and 7 women) from 8 Youth Networks affiliated to AI Nepal and working in Kathmandu and Kavre districts participated in the programmme.
