ISSUES

We speak out for anyone and everyone whose freedom and dignity are under threat. We take injustice personally. We undertake investigations and bring the facts to light, whenever and wherever human rights abuses happen. We support people claim their rights through education and training.

Amnesty primarily targets governments, but also reports on non-governmental bodies and private individuals (“non-state actors“). Amnesty International Nepal generally follows the areas which Amnesty International deals with. They are:

  1. Rights of women, children, minorities, and Indigenous peoples
  2. Ending torture,
  3. Abolition of the death penalty,
  4. Rights of migrants and refugees,
  5. Rights of the political prisoners and prisoners of conscience,
  6. Protection of human dignity.

In Nepal, Amnesty Nepal works in the following key areas.

  • Arbitrary or illegal arrests, unlawful detention, torture, and custodial deaths
  • Freedom of expression, association, and assembly
  • Rights of women, children, minorities, and Indigenous peoples
  • Rule of Law, Accountability, Impunity and Transitional justice
  • Rights of the migrant workers
  • Right to health, housing, and social security
  • Gender and inter-sectional justice
