Amnesty International Nepal organized a three-day induction programme to the members of the newly elected National Board and Appeals Committee on 20– 22 May in Godawari, Lalitpur.
Gnanam Devadass, who was delegated for the task by the International Secretariat, facilitated the induction. The induction was attended by 11 members of the board, three members of the Appeals Committee, and the director.
The contents delivered during the induction included sessions on the orientation of Amnesty as a global human rights movement, its existing global strategic framework, role of Section Board in the global governance of Amnesty, Amnesty’s core standards, the governance and management protocols, enabling participation of members and supporters, among others.
The National Board Chair Bipin Budhathoki set the tone of the induction by welcoming all the board members and the facilitator and asking everybody to prepare to learn and unlearn things in the course of the induction.
On 22 May, the team of staff joined the board to participate the sessions on strategic thinking and planning. Discussions and group works were held on the vision, mission and values of Amnesty, the context analysis, strategic prioritization and operational planning processes.
At the end of the session, former leaders of Amnesty Nepal shared their experiences and perspectives including their suggestions to the new board.
The Chair concluded the induction by thanking all for their active participation and hoped to work together to deliver on the organizational change as mandated by Amnesty Nepal’s Statute and as per the obligations to and commitments made to the global movement of Amnesty International.
