Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), the Chairperson of Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), said it is fair to raise concern against ongoing impunity in Nepal during a meeting with a delegation of the National Executive Committee of Amnesty International Nepal at his residence in Lazimpat.
As per the objective of Amnesty International Nepal’s newly elected National Executive Committee to meet with political parties to express the organisation’s concerns over ongoing human rights situation in Nepal, the delegation met Prachanda on 23 November.
The delegation handed over three different memorandums: calling to end impunity, protect rights of the migrant workers and recognise uterine prolapse as a human rights issue. Vice-chairperson of the National Executive Committee Pratap Paudel read out the memorandums before they were submitted by Chairperson Surya Bahadur Adhikari.
Accepting the memorandum, Chairperson Dahal said, “It is fair for organisations like Amnesty International to raise concern about impunity and injustice in Nepal. However, given the current situation of transitional justice in Nepal, it is very difficult to resolve the problem and it is not a easy task.”
Advisor and Former Chairperson Krishna Kandel, Vice-chairperson Pratap Paudel, Coordinator of Appeal Committee Kumar Ghimire, Deputy General Secretary Bikram Dhukuchhu, Board Member Heramb Dev Bhattarai, Member of Appeal Committee Ashok Shrestha Joshi, Convener of Group 80 Manoj Adhikari were part of the Amnesty delegation.
