Amnesty International Nepal together with various other organisations conducted a series of actions on the week of global climate action that ran from 20 to 27 September.
As a precursor to the week of global climate action, Amnesty Nepal organised a panel discussion entitled “Climate Change: Intersectional Understanding and Role of Youth” at Nepal Law Campus on 16 September. The event was held to mark the conferring of the Ambassador of Conscience award to Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish activist and the leader of the FridaysForFuture movement.
During the week, Amnesty Nepal activists also submitted the letter written by Amnesty International’s Secretary General Kumi Naidoo to the leaders and principals of Nepal’s various schools and colleges across the country.
On 27 September, over 200 youth activists partook in a demonstration rally that started from the Kathmandu District Court and ended at Everest Hotel in New Baneshwar. Activists from FridaysForFutureNepal group, PowerShiftNepal, Associations of Youth Organization Nepal (AYON), members and supporters of Amnesty Nepal and others participated in the rally.
