Research Report
20 October, 2014
Publishing a report on 20 October, Amnesty International has called on the South Korean government to end the exploitation and widespread use of forced labour of migrant agricultural workers. The report titled “Bitter Harvest” reveals how the country’s farming industry is rife with abuse.
The report exposes the true face of South Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS) that directly contributes to the serious exploitation of migrant agricultural workers. The government-run work scheme is designed to provide migrant labour to small and medium-sized enterprises that struggle to hire a sufficient number of national workers.
AI Nepal organised an event on 20 October to launch the report in Nepal. At the programme AI Nepal’s Director Rameshwar Nepal made a detailed presentation about the report highlighting how migrant workers working in agricultural sector are facing abuses and are in situation of forced labour.
