Bring Back Our Girls
27 May, 2014
Amnesty International Nepal organised a demonstration on 27 May in Kathmandu calling for the safe and immediate release of over 200 school girls who were abducted by Boko haram militants on 14 April 2014 from Chibok, Nigeria. AI members, representatives civil society organisations and general public expressed their solidarity at the event held at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in Kathmandu.
Nigeria’s militant Islamist group Boko Haram – which has caused havoc in Africa’s most populous country through a wave of bombings, assassinations and now abductions – is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state since 2002.
“The abduction and continued detention of these school girls are war crimes, and those responsible must be brought to justice. Attacks on schools also violate the right to education and must be halted immediately,” Amnesty International has said in its statement.
