Dear Prime Minister

Ellinor Guttorm Utsi is a Sámi Indigenous leader working tirelessly to protect her community’s ancient reindeer-herding way of life in northern Norway. In 2023, several hundred wind turbines were suddenly proposed directly on their summer grazing lands in Čorgaš, threatening to damage grazing land, break migration routes and destroy their culture. Despite fierce opposition, the authorities are rushing approvals.

I urge you to protect the rights of the Sámi reindeer-herding communities by ensuring that industrial wind-power projects that threaten their lands and way of life do not proceed without the free, prior and informed consent of the affected Sámi people.

नेपालका विभिन्न भूभागमा भूमिहीन “सुकुम्वासी” तथा अव्यवस्थित बसोवासी समुदायहरू जबरजस्ती निष्कासनमा परेका वा जबरजस्ती निष्कासनमा पर्ने जोखिममा रहेका छन्। पर्याप्त पूर्वसूचना, वैकल्पिक व्यवस्थालगायका उचित कानुनी प्रक्रियाका साथ मानवअधिकारका संरक्षणात्मक उपायहरू बिना आवासबाट हटाउने अभ्यासका कारण उनीहरूले दशकौँदेखि बसोबास गर्दै आएको घर, सम्पत्ति र जीवनका आधारहरू गुमाएका वा गुमाउने जोखिमताको सामना गरिरहेका छन्।

संविधानले प्रत्याभूत गरेको सुरक्षित र मर्यादित आवासको अधिकार सुनिश्चित गर्नु सरकारको दायित्व हो। त्यसैले विकास, सौन्दर्यकरण संरक्षण वा अन्य कुनै नाममा गरिने निष्कासन अघि प्रभावित समुदायसँग परामर्श गरी वैकल्पिक पुनर्वासका उपायहरू सुनिश्चित गर्न आवश्यक छ। सकेसम्म जबरजस्ती निष्कासन नगर्न, नगराउन र यदि अन्तिम विकल्पका रूपमा निष्कासन गर्नु नै पर्ने अवस्था देखिएमा प्रभावितहरूसँग परामर्श गरी विकल्पहरूको पहिचान गरी उचित कानुनी प्रक्रिया र मानवअधिकारका संरक्षणात्मक उपायहरू अपनाएर मात्र निष्कासन गर्न र यसरी निष्कासित गरिएकाहरूलाई यथाशीघ्र पुनर्वास गराउन अनुरोध गर्दछु।

आवास गुमाउनु भनेको संविधानप्रदत्त मौलिक हक गुमाउनु हो। त्यसकारण, जबरजस्ती निष्कासनमा परेका वा सोको जोखिममा रहेका समुदायहरूको पर्याप्त, सुरक्षित र मर्यादित आवासको अधिकारलगायत सम्पूर्ण मानवअधिकारको सम्मान, संरक्षण र परिपूर्ति गर्न गृह मन्त्रालयद्वारा तत्काल प्रभावकारी कदम चाल्नका लागि यसैसाथ गम्भीर आह्वान गर्दछु।

Prime Minister of Cambodia 

Dear Prime Minister

Mother Nature Cambodia has courageously defended the Cambodian environment since 2013. But since 2016, the authorities have repeatedly targeted the group with arrests and prosecution, for nothing more than protecting the environment and exercising their right to freedom of expression. In June 2024, six members of the group were sentenced to between six and eight years in prison. One member fled Cambodia to continue their work, but the remaining five activists are enduring harsh conditions in prisons that are not compliant with international human rights standards.

I call on you to immediately and unconditionally release the five detained activists and quash all convictions against Mother Nature Cambodia activists.

Nobody should face prison simply for protecting the planet.

Dear President

The Guerreras por la Amazonía are fighting alongside the Union of People Affected by Texaco’s Oil Operations and the collective “Eliminen los Mecheros, Enciendan la Vida” (Remove the Flares, Ignite Life) to eliminate gas flares which are causing toxic fumes and environmental devastation in their communities. In 2021, a landmark ruling required the government to eliminate the use of gas flares, yet they continue to burn.

I am deeply concerned that the young defenders are facing stigma and violent intimidation. Rather than investigating the threats against them, the authorities told the group that they will only provide them with protection if they stop their activism.

I demand that you uphold the ruling to eliminate gas flares and ensure the safety of climate defenders.

To the Myanmar military junta

I am writing to demand that you immediately release photojournalist Sai Zaw Thaike.

Sai Zaw has been persecuted for his work reporting on the devastation caused by Cyclone Mocha. In 2023, he was arrested and sentenced by a military tribunal to 20 years in prison. He has endured beatings by prison staff and periods of solitary confinement. Sai Zaw must be freed now.
