Appeal to take steps to remove the statute of limitation on rape cases and make the justice process accessible
Honourable Minister Thapa,
The statute of limitation on rape cases in Nepal’s law is maintained at one year. However, young girls are the victims in most of the rape cases, while the possibility of involvement of people with power and influence in heinous crimes like rape cannot be ignored. In this context, how much the statute of limitation affects the victims’ struggle for justice really needs to be taken into grave consideration.
Thousands of victims are being deprived justice because of this legal provision. The complication is a barrier to their access to justice. I sincerely appeal to you to take steps to remove the statute of limitation on rape cases and help make Nepal’s laws victim-friendly and the justice process accessible to all the victims.
