Youth Leadership Assembly 2018 elects two youth members to the Board

Samikshya Koirala and Bipin Budhathoki to serve as Board members until 2020Amnesty International Nepal’s Youth Leadership Assembly 2018 has elected two youth activists, Samikshya Koirala and Bipin Budhathoki, to the executive Board. Samikshya has been a member of Amnesty International Kathmandu University Youth Network while Bipin represents Dynamic Youth Network of Kathmandu and is also an incumbent in the present Board. Representatives from 27 youth networks eligible for voting met in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi on 15 September along with the Election Committee. The representatives were elected from female only and open categories respectively. A total of seven candidates (five in the open category and two in the female category) expressed their commitments and lobbied for their candidacies prior to the poll. Results of the election were drawn out right after the voting which took place under the purview of Election Officer and General Secretary Laxmi Niraula. The youth representatives will serve as Amnesty Nepal’s Board members for a term of two years until 2020.
The programme included sessions in which the participants deliberated on ways to make youth activism in the human rights movement more effective and an action demanding release and justice to Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kway Sae Oo of Myanmar.
