Amnesty International showing its deep concern regarding whipping in Malaysia. Whipping is used in Malaysia as a punishment for at least 40 crimes, including entering the country without authorization. Whipping is a cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment prohibited under human rights law. Those whipped often carry scars, psychological as well as physical, for years.
Amnesty International urges that Malaysian Government to repeal all laws providing for caning or whipping and all other forms of corporal punishment; including the immigration act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002). The post cards have been sent to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
