International Day of the Disappeared
30 August, 2015
Amnesty International Nepal along with Conflict Victims’ Common Platform (CVCP) and other human rights organisations commemorated the International Day of Disappeared from 28-30 August, 2015.
To mark the occasion, a candle lighting programme was organised in memory of those disappeared. Discussions were also held on the issue of gaps and lapses in the Commission on Investigation of Disappeared Persons (CoID). Victims, experts, government representatives, national and international human rights organisations participated in the programme.
Victims’ families and the human rights community expressed their discontentment with the State for not engaging them in addressing the issue of enforced disappearances during the armed conflict.
They criticised the government for not adopting a victim-centric approach while drafting the Commission on Investigation of Disappeared Persons (CoID) Act and blamed political parties for being insensitive towards their sufferings.
