International Human Rights Day observed in Nepal with the worldwide slogan, ´Speak Up, Stop Discrimination´ and the national slogan ´Collective Solidarity for Democracy and Peace, National Commitment to Timely Constitution in favour of Human Rights.´
On the occasion Amnesty International Nepal and Human Rights and Democratic Forum(FOHRID) Jointly organized a talk programme on 10 December, 2010.The topic of the talk programme was- Impunity and Serious Crime of International Concern.
Speaking on the programme founder of Amnesty International Nepal Nutan Thapaliya, advocate Dinesh Tripathi and other speakers shedlight on the subject matter. on the occasion speakers said that the impunity was yet to be put to an end in the country as no action was taken against those involved in making the people disappeared.
Similarly, three days Human Rights National Grand Gathering 2067 organized in Kathmandu on December 9-11,2010. Total one hundred and three Human Rights organizations, Including AI Nepal jointly organized the event.
Organising committee of Human Rights National Grand Gathering 2067 took out a rally in the Capital on 10 of December 2010.
Carrying placards, rallists shouted slogans—’Guarantee human rights’; ‘Enforce the rule of law’; ‘Make the status of disappeared people public’; ‘Guarantee press freedom’ and ‘End violence against women’. The rally started from Basantapur and converged into a corner assembly in Ratnapark.
Addressing the corner assembly, Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission Kedar Nath Upadhaya said that human rights cannot be guaranteed unless the new constitution and peace process is completed.
Saying that all forms of discrimination existing in the country should be ended, he stressed for drafting the new constitution on time.
Various forty stalls of the organization working in the sector of human rights including AI Nepal , have been kept in Grand Gathering.
