Human Rights Education Drive Kicks-off from East

Amnesty International Nepal began its nationwide drive on Human Rights Education on 1 June from Letang, Morang. The first phase of the two-part workshop had participation of 34 representatives of Amnesty Nepal’s Groups and Youth Networks of the eastern region. The two-day workshop focused on inculcating the members with comprehensive understanding of the human rights movement, conditions unfolding in the human rights conditions around the world, and, in core, delivering effective human rights education classes to school children. The second phase of the workshop is scheduled to begin on 8 June in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi.

The current initiation taken under the human rights education programme is quite new in regard to its extensiveness. The objective to pervade basic awareness and education about human rights to school children is expected to be met by mobilising the participants of the workshop to educate 30,000 school children in different parts of Nepal. This ‘field-mobilisation’ will follow the workshops when the equipped members will go to selected schools in their relative areas.
