Front Line Political Leaders Express Commitment to Protect Human Rights

Senior members of leading political parties in Nepal expressed their commitment to protect human rights in Nepal. Speaking at a program organised by Amnesty International Nepal on 6 December, the party leaders made public commitments.

Speaking at the program organised on the occasion of 66th International Human Rights Day, former Prime Minister and senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Dueba said, “Our party is committed to protect every single right of every individual.” 

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Vice-chairperson of Unified Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) said, “The time has come to assure Nepali people that their rights will be protected at any cost. My party is committed to doing just that.”

Former Minster and Vice-chairperson of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist Leninist) Bhim Rawal highlighted the need to pay special attention towards protecting the rights of marginalised communities.

The programme was addressed by Founder of Amnesty International Nepal Nutan Thapaliya, Human Rights Activist Krishna Pahadi, Member of National Human Commission Sudeep Pathak, Chairperson of Nepal Trade Union Congress Khilanath Dahal, Human Rights defender Renuka Paudel and AI Nepal’s Vice-chairperson Pratap Paudel. The programme was chaired by AI Nepal’s Chairperson Surya Bahadur Adhikari.
