On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (3 May), Amnesty International Nepal organised a public event voicing support to journalists and media persons for their work as human rights defenders. The gathering of activists and Amnesty Nepal’s supporters at Shanti Batika, Ratnapark in Kathmandu at 9 am was joined by leading human rights activists Charan Kumar Prasai and Subodh Pyakurel. Journalists of various media organsations including chair of Reporters Club Nepal Rishi Dhamala participated in the event. Amnesty International Nepal’s Chairperson Rajan Prasad Kuikel addressed the gathering by expressing solidarity to journalists who brave the difficult situations defending public interest and rights of the people. Amnesty International supports journalists as human rights defenders and demands protection and security of the journalists.
