69th International Human Rights Day

Around forty poets including Nepal’s prominent literary figures and men of letters such as bangmaya shataabdi yug purush Satya Mohan Joshi, Prof. Tulasi Diwas, Prof. Dr. Benju Sharma, Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi, poet Toya Gurung, poet Nabaraj Lamsal, poet Viplob Pratik, among others, joined Amnesty International Nepal to mark the 69th International Human Rights Day in Basantapur Durbar Square, Kathmandu on 9 December by reciting poetry invoking human rights themes.

Over 500 people gathered to listen to the poets. On the occassion, Amnesty International Nepal also felictated national poet Satya Mohan Joshi, Prof. Tulasi Diwas, Prof. Dr. Benju Sharma, Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi and poet Toya Gurung with its honorary membership, recognising their contribution in the promotion of human rights through their service for the cause of “uplifting the state of language, art and culture” in Nepal.  

Parallely, Amnesty Nepal ran Human Rights Action and Information Desks during the inaugural of 9th Human Rights Magna Meet in Kathmandu. The desk was visited by the President of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission Hon’ble Anup Raj Sharma. More than 200 participants also visited the Amnesty Nepal desk and signed petitions for the protection of rights of Human Rights defenders from Bangladesh, China, Chad and Honduras. The desk disseminated information on the various human rights campaigns run by Amnesty International.
