10th National Youth Mela
Over 75 youth activists were equipped with necessary knowledge and skills to campaign for the protection and promotion of human rights in their communities at the 10th National Youth Mela which was held from 26 to 28 March in Pokhara.
Introduction on Amnesty International and human rights, AI Nepal’s ongoing priority campaigns backed with theoretical and participatory approaches engaged participants throughout the three-day period. Charan Prasai and Pradeep Pokharel, former Chairpersons of AI Nepal and Roshan Budhathoki, AI Nepal Youth Activist together with AI Nepal’s Director Rameshwar Nepal and Interim Campaign Officer Shradha Thapa facilitated the sessions.
Kul Prasad Karki, Chairperson of Pravasi Nepali Co-ordination Committee, talked to participants about the situation of rights of Nepali migrant workers. Shekhar Prasad Poudel, Chief judge at Kaski District Court, elaborated on the possible role of youths in every reforms in the country and expressed his co-operation in protection and promotion of human rights in the country.
Youth Network members affiliated to AI Nepal from across the country participated in the workshop. Over 55 per cent of the participants were girls.
