Amnesty International Nepal’s Delegation Meet Chairperson of Rastriya Prajatantra Party

17 November, 2014

The Chairperson of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashupati Shamsher Junga Bahadur Rana expressed his commitment to getting the Rome Statute of International Court ratified by Nepal during a meeting with a delegation of the National Executive Committee of Amnesty International Nepal at his residence in Maharajgunj.

The delegation handed over three different memorandums: calling to end impunity, protect rights of the migrant workers and recognise uterine prolapse as a human rights issue to Rana during the meeting. Vice-Chairperson of the National Executive Committee Pratap Paudel read out the memorandums before they were handed over by Chairperson Surya Bahadur Adhikari.

Accepting the memorandums, RPP Chairperson Rana said, “The issues raised by Amnesty International are very important for the betterment of human rights. However, it will take time to achieve them.”

“I along with my party have been working very hard for more than a decade to get the Rome Statute of International Criminal Court ratified and end impunity in Nepal, but no tangible achievement has been made yet. Therefore we are not doing any active campaign as in the past,” he added.

Advisor Bishnu Nisthuri, Vice-chairperson Pratap Paudel and Member Heramb Dev Bhattarai were part of the Amnesty Nepal delegation.

Earlier, a delegation led by Chairperson Surya Bahadur Adhikari had met with the Chairperson of Nepal Communist Party United Marxist Leninist Khadga Prasad Oli on 13 November and handed over the same memorandums.
