THIRD NATIONAL YOUTH MELA 2009, CHITWAN
The Third National Youth Mela (Camp) held at Sauraha of Chitwan district from 9-11 April 2009. During the three-day program, various indoor sessions and out-door activities were held.
Youth meal 2009Under the indoor sessions, the participants were introduced to Amnesty International, the role of youth networks in AI campaign and leadership while more sessions on Thematic Networks of AI, Campaigning Framework and techniques and various aspects of Letter Writing were conducted. Likewise, special sessions to introduce participants about Amnesty International's Global Campaign on "Demand Dignity", which will be launched in May this year, were conducted. The participants also were introduced about campaigning techniques. Marie Ko from AI's Asia Pacific Office Hongkong, Keshab Sigdel and Uttam Sapkota from the National Executive Committee and Rameshwar Nepal and Bhola Bhattarai conducted those sessions.
As part of the outdoor activities, the participants of the Mela took part in a demonstration demanding protection of women human rights defenders held at Narayanghat on 10 April. The participants were also taken to visit beautiful places of Sauraha during outdoor activities.
youth mela 2009On the occasion, the Chairperson Hem Kumar Khadka, Vice-chairperson Keshab Sigdel, General Secretary Shambhu Thakur, Deputy General Secretary Uttam Sapkota, Advisor Lokesh Dhakal, NEC Members Chet Narayan Bhusal, Nirmal Babu Shrestha and Yashoda Upadhyaya were present in the program.
There was participation of 57 (28 male and 29 female) youth representatives from 29 Youth Networks of AI Nepal situated in different part of the country.
SECOND NATIONAL YOUTH MELA 2008, DHULIKHEL
The Second National Youth Mela (Camp) was held at Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk from 31 May to 1 June 2008. During the two-day program, various indoor session and out-door activities were held.
Under the indoor sessions, the participants were introduced to Amnesty International, the role of youth networks in AI campaign and leadership. Likewise, more sessions on Thematic Networks of AI, Campaigning Framework and techniques and various aspects of Letter Writing were conducted. Representatives of the Youth Networks also shared their Human Rights Campaigning Experience. Likewise, as part of the outdoor activities, the participants of the program held a Signature Collection Action calling to release prisoners of conscience in China, distribution of leaflets on women rights to the public in Dhulikhel and a demonstration cum rally against Impunity in Banepa. The participants were taken to visit beautiful places Namo Budhha and Devisthan of the Kavrepalanchok during outdoor activities.
The Mela came to an end with an open forum where a discussion was held among the participants and the National Executive Committee of AI Nepal. On the occasion, the Acting Chairperson Dhruba Kumar Karki and General Secretary Chandra Kumar Adhikari responded to various queries put forth by the participants. There was participation of 69 (37 male and 32 female) youth representatives from 23 Youth Networks of AI Nepal situated in different part of the country.
FIRST NATIONAL YOUTH MELA 2007, POKHARA
The First National Youth Mela (Camp) was held in Pokhara from 15 to 16 June 2007. During the two-day program, various indoor session and out-door activities were held. Under the indoor sessions, the participants were introduced to Amnesty International, the role of youth network, Campaigning framework and techniques and Letter Writing.
Likewise, as part of the outdoor activities, the participants of the program held a rally cum demonstration on the rights of women. Collection of signature calling to provide compensation to the victims of Bhopal gas accident and distribution of leaflets on women rights in the public places were two more outdoor events of the Mela.
Similarly, they visited Regional Offices of the National Human Rights Commission and Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) in Pokhara where the participants interacted with the officials of those institution regarding their role and activities on human rights.
The participants had have opportunity to visit beautiful places Sarangkot, Mahendra Gufa, Davis Falls and Bindhyabasani Temple as well as boating at Fewa Lake.
There was participation of 73 (39 male and 34 female) youth representatives from 20 different places where there were Youth Members of AI Nepal situated in.
